About

I bring over 30 years’ experience in regulatory and compliance work to my consultancy. Starting my working life in the world of Trading Standards, I specialised in Consumer Credit, Package Travel, Product Safety and latterly Food Standards. With a degree in Home Economics, I found my interests and work life dovetailed when joining HJ Heinz Ltd as a Labelling Legislation Manager. At Heinz, I worked collaboratively with NPD and Marketing, addressing legal concerns to enable the benefits of the product to be highlighted, so it could be marketed in the most effective way, whilst ensuring it complied with the law and was ahead of the competition.

I then moved into a consultancy company where I worked with UK and International retailers and manufacturers.  I gained experience of using all major specification and artwork systems, and an understanding of each retailer’s specific requirements. I am equally at home with paper-based systems and am flexible on the approach that works for you.

Since setting up my business I have worked with many SMEs; manufacturers, distributors and importers, checking formulations, label information and advertising literature.  I work in partnership with a number of other consultants across the world to provide support on UK, Irish and Maltese food law requirements.  I can also support on product safety of pet food and household goods for the UK market.

I have worked across all categories of food and non-food grocery. I am happy to discuss your ideas and approaches to compliance, your appetite for risk, as well as looking at specific products or marketing campaigns.

I like to collaborate as part of the team, addressing compliance issues in a proactive and practical way, so that products can reach their potential in the market place.  I strongly believe that Regulatory Advice should be positive and supportive, rather than being perceived as the team that say ‘No’!  You won’t get pointed in the direction of the legislation, I will apply the rules to your products, and give you some easy-to-follow advice on your options.

As a Trading Standards Practitioner, I remain aware of the priorities of the enforcement community, keeping up to date on legal changes and understanding the marketplace.  I am ideally placed to support you at every stage of developing, launching, redesigning and marketing your products.

Additionally, I work with my professional Institute, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute helping to develop new entrants to the profession by providing training and marking coursework on food matters.  This helps to keep me updated with changes in the enforcement approach and priorities.
